Any business that wants to generate leads needs to have a blog–regardless of their industry.
We know, it sounds old school, but blogging is still around for good reason.
If you’ve tried it in the past and didn’t receive any traction, chances are you weren’t approaching it the right way.
Here’s how to use blogging to generate leads.
1. Research your target audience and their interests
First, you’ll want to start by conducting in-depth research on your audience.
You should understand not only who they are and where they’re coming from, but also what their interests are.
When they browse the web, what are they searching for?
What are they reading and on which sites?
What is their intent?
You’ll want to obtain the answers to these questions before you start writing any blog posts. This will help you paint a better picture of the type of content they’re searching for and allow you to tailor your copy in this way.
2. Create content that will hit on your users’ pain points
Your blog posts should hit on your users’ pain points, addressing the biggest problems they’re experiencing and the solutions they seek.
Address these issues in your content, and you’ll be able to connect with your audience on a deeper level.
They’ll see that you understand their needs, and you’re there to help them solve their problems.
Keep in mind that blogging isn’t about selling your products or services outright–it’s about building relationships and trust with your audience.
When users feel like you’re helping them, they’ll be more likely to convert into customers. If you can do that, the leads will come naturally.
3. Offer exclusive content like eBooks
In addition to blog posts, you can also offer exclusive content like eBooks and special guides in exchange for users’ contact information.
You can reference your eBook or other exclusive content in the blog posts themselves, in a sidebar, or in a pop-up.
This is a great way to generate leads because you’re giving your audience something valuable in exchange for their information.
Just be sure that the content you’re offering is high-quality and relevant to them. Otherwise, they’ll be less likely to hand over their information.
Once you have their contact information, you can start following up with them and nurturing those leads into customers.
4. Include social proof
Including social proof and testimonials in your blog posts is a great way to show your audience that you’re credible and trustworthy.
This may include things like images of people using your product or services and reviews.
When potential customers see that other people have had success with your products or services, they’ll be more likely to convert into leads.
5. Add pop-ups to capture leads
If you want to take your lead generation efforts a step further, you can add pop-ups to your blog.
This is a great way to capture leads in exchange for exclusive content, like the eBooks we mentioned earlier.
If the content is valuable enough, they’ll be more than happy to hand over their information.
Just be careful not to overdo it–too many popups can annoy your users and cause them to click off of your page. Try to limit it to two at absolute max–an exit popup and/or a timed popup that appears once the user has scrolled to a certain point on the page.
6. End with a compelling call-to-action
Adding a clear and compelling CTA creates the perfect opportunity to ask users to sign up for your newsletter, download an eBook, or take some other action that will help you generate leads. Without one, your readers will simply leave your site as soon as they’ve finished reading.
7. Reach out to industry sites for guest posting opportunities
One of the best ways to get more eyes on your blog is to share it on other industry sites. This method of “link building” is called guest posting.
The process takes a lot of time and involves reaching out to other bloggers and sites in your industry to see if they’re interested in featuring your content.
If they are, you’ll be able to share your article on their site, which will help you generate leads.
Keep in mind that guest posting is a long-term strategy–it won’t provide immediate results.
But these results will be worth it in the long run.
Not only will it boost your credibility with Google by adding a link back to your site from a more credible one, but it will also allow you to reach a new and larger audience and position you as an expert.
Generating leads is an important part of any business’ success. And while there are many ways to generate leads, blogging is one of the best. If you can create great content that hits on your users’ pain points and offers them valuable solutions, you’ll be able to generate a lot of leads for your business.
